Cats go Crazy over Catnip

Cats go Crazy over Catnip

Giving a catnip is probably one of the most irresistible things that you can give to your cat. Anything that is touched with it can make them go crazy as if they are just some addicting stimulant drugs that will make them forget everything. Once a cat has sniffed the catnip aroma some of them will look really drunk or behave like an addict. They forget about nearly everything else and will continue to sniff it while, dancing and wiggling around.

There is no need to be alarmed and you do not need to take them to the vet, they are not intoxicated or drugged. They just cannot help the feeling of sniffing the irresistible scent but once they have been removed, they will go back to their normal behavior. It can give you much amusement watching your cat have fun with its catnip.

Catnip is an aromatic herb that belongs to the mint family. When their leaves are broken, they release a type of minty chemical that cats cats simply find irresistible. This chemical is called Nepetalactone and it has the capability to stimulate all of the five senses of your pet. They will make their sense of hearing sharper, they will make them lick their paws, they will feel itchy or slithery, they will see things so beautifully, and of course they will sniff some more. There is no need to become alarmed this is just a natural reaction. Just consider it like a light addiction similar to humans when we go gaga when we see our favorite celebrity or become too excited because we won in the lottery.

In the same way as humans, different cats will have different reactions to catnip. They do not respond in the same way because some will just show a little effect but there are also those that will act as if they have just become crazy. There are those who are not contented with a single sniff but there are also those who will sniff as if they are not interested at all. This is just to show that they also have individual personalities just as how much different we are when we respond to celebrities. The good thing about this is that it is very amusing to watch your pets suddenly change its attitude once you let them sniff this herb. Fortunately, the chemicals in catnip that can make our pets act so crazily are safe and not addictive.
